Waikato Rovers might be a small crew but they made sure they were not missed at this year's Rover Moot.

The 70th annual moot, held at Kaikohe over Easter, is a highlight on the rover's calendar and is filled with fun, challenging activities and a community service project.

Crews were challenged to make costumes on a budget of $5 per person and the Hamilton group will don handmade costumes in Waikato red, black and yellow to represent the region with pride at the formal dinner.

Leader Karen Sluter says the moot is a great way to get together with rovers from around the country to network and share new experiences.

This year's theme is wind back and rovers were asked to vote on their favourite themes from previous moots and fairytale and back to the future themes came out tops.

Rovers are the young adult section of scouts.

They are involved in many community projects, fundraising for charities, assisting with environmental projects, leading keas, cubs and scouts.

They also undertake their own outdoor activities and challenges such as abseiling, caving, rafting, skiing, tramping, car rallies, theatre, music, and canoeing.

If you are interested in joining the Waikato Rovers email waikato.rovers@scouting.org.nz or call 0800 SCOUTS (726887).
