Cubs of the St Mary's Scout Group clean up the honours boards near the Cenotaph in Memorial Park, Hamilton East.

A pack of cubs were busy tidying up the Cenotaph area of Memorial Park, River Rd, this week.

Under the watchful eyes of akela Sharon Donnelly and group leader David Cannell, the cubs swept, scrubbed and cleaned the memorial plaques and paved area.

It is part of a national initiative by Scouting New Zealand to introduce the youngsters to community services and working in their community.

Sharon says the group is talking with Hamilton City Council about working alongside Tag Busters to tackle the clean-up of graffiti in the city - another phase in the community service exercise.

The St Mary's Scout group is recruiting more members in Keas (6-8 years); Cubs (7-10 years); Scouts (10-15 years) and Venturers (15-18 years). For more details, phone David Cannell 856 7243.
