Frankton house fire suspicious - police

Lynda Feringa

Hamilton detectives investigating a house fire in Frankton early yesterday morning say a combined scene examination has confirmed the blaze was suspicious.

Detective Constable Ian Foster of the Hamilton CIB said Police and Fire Service investigators had completed a forensic examination of the Norton Rd property that was seriously damaged by fire about 12.25am.

"Our investigations have confirmed an accelerant was used to ignite the fire and we are appealing for any witnesses or anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area between 11.30pm and 12.25am to come forward.

"The house, which was vacant at the time, was seriously damaged in the blaze which was bought under control by firefighters."

Anyone with any information on the cause of the fire or who may have seen anything suspicious is asked to contact Mr Foster at the Hamilton Central Police Station on 07 858 6200.

Alternatively, information can be left anonymously with Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
