First performance in modern times: Concerto for Double Bass

Opus Orchestra presents another stunning programme for audiences in Hamilton, Rotorua and Tauranga featuring the talented young double bassist Darija Andzakovic playing Sperger’s Concerto in C minor for double bass. This will be the first performance in modern times of this concerto and Darija will be performing her own edition of this work. Darija holds a Masters degree in both double-bass performance and musicology and was awarded a Lilburn Trust Performance Award in 2010.
The programme will be complemented by one of the great classical masterpieces, Beethoven’s Eroica Symphony – the revolutionary symphony that changed the course of classical music for all time. The music takes us on an evocative and wild journey of emotional extremes, depicting heroes, revolution, death, grief, confusion, realisation and triumph!
Audiences will be enchanted by the full complement of players of Opus Orchestra as they perform the familiar and the unusual. Conducted by Peter Walls, Opus Orchestra will continue its tradition of providing exciting programmes throughout the year as the professional regional orchestra for the Waikato and the Bay of Plenty.
Beethoven’s Eroica will be performed in
